American First Credit Union Provides Loans To Members Impacted By State Budget Crisis

La Habra, Calif., February 19th, 2009— American First Credit Union has developed a short-term loan assistance program to provide funds for qualifying members and prospective members who have been impacted by the State of California’s one-month delayed payment program. The loan was developed in response to the recent announcement made by John Chaing, California State Controller, that his office will delay an estimated $3.3 billion in payments during the month of February due to the state budget deficit and eroding state revenues.

American First is one of 11 credit unions that have pledged to provide a combined $22.4 million in loans to Californians whose income regularly depends on the delayed funds from the State Controller's office during the month of February. American First is offering these loans until February 28, 2009, and those interested should call 800/ 290-1112 to determine their eligibility and apply.

“We are proud to join credit unions across the state to assist members who may be impacted by the state’s budget crisis,” said Carlos Miramontez, Vice President of Operations. “These short-term loans will allow our members to maintain their lifestyle during this temporary hardship.”

American First Credit Union (AFCU) is a member-owned, full-service financial cooperative established in 1952. It has five convenient Orange County branches, located in La Habra, Buena Park, Placentia, Orange and Tustin. AFCU has over $700 million in assets and serves more than 70,000 members. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Orange County or 16 additional cities throughout the Greater Los Angeles area.
