American First Credit Union Sends Student to National Leadership Conference

La Habra, Calif., June 15, 2009— Nataly Olivares of Orange, CA dreamed of attending the National Leadership Conference of Future Business Leaders of America. Even though the 16-year-old Villa Park High School junior had qualified to compete in the conference competition, Theresa Hagelbarger, her school adviser, knew she couldn’t attend without a sponsorship, so she turned to American First Credit Union for help.

American First, a frequent supporter of local school programs, quickly agreed and provided Olivares the $105.00 needed to attend the four-day National Leadership conference beginning June 25 at the Anaheim Marriott. At the conference, Olivares will join hundreds of other youths from around the country to compete in leadership events, share successes and learn new career ideas through workshops and exhibits.

“By competing in this event, I have a great opportunity to gain some valuable knowledge and experience,” said Nataly Olivares. “I am truly grateful to American First Credit Union for giving me a chance to show my capabilities.”

American First has been a long-time supporter of valuable school programs. In fact, earlier this spring, American First hosted a fundraiser to specifically raise money for financial education programs. By selling ice cream bars at the Orange County Marketplace Swap Meet and Fairgrounds one weekend, American First raised more than $1,700 for educational programs---funds that were used to sponsor Olivares at the National Leadership Conference.

“As a proud supporter of school programs, we are pleased to provide an opportunity for Miss Olivares to attend the leadership conference,” said Bob Street, American First President/CEO. “We wish her the best of luck in the competition.”

American First Credit Union (AFCU) is a member-owned, full-service financial cooperative established in 1952. It has five convenient Orange County branches, located in La Habra, Buena Park, Placentia, Orange and Tustin. AFCU has over $700 million in assets and serves more than 70,000 members. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Orange County or 16 additional cities throughout the Greater Los Angeles area.
