YOUR ECONOMIC IMPACT PAYMENT - FAST & SAFE ACCESS TIPS
American First is here to support you while navigating the financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve pulled together resources to help you understand how to get your economic impact payment quickly, and safely, in three steps.

  1. Determine your payment amount. Find out how much money you may qualify for by visiting irs.gov/coronavirus
  2. Be safe. Review information on how to avoid fraud and scams. Use the #FTCScamBingo to learn more about avoiding COVID-19 related scams.
  3. Get paid. Take steps to ensure you receive the money direct to your bank account instead of paper check. Paper checks will take much longer than direct deposit. In the coming weeks the IRS will be developing a portal where consumers can check the status of their refund and provide their direct deposit information. Check irs.gov/coronavirus for timing.
At your credit union, if accounts are overdrawn, any deposits are automatically applied to cover negative balances. However, we are committed to ensuring you have full access to your CARES Act stimulus funds. Please contact us if you have questions or need further information on how we can help you. Your Credit Union continues to be here for you during these unprecedented times.

We want to assure you that in times of economic challenge, your American First Credit Union deposits are safe. We are well-capitalized and strong. BE AWARE OF COVID-19 SCAMS

Unfortunately, scammers are taking advantage of the fears surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak. We want to share a few tips for protecting your private information:

  • Be aware and vigilant about false information related to cures, vaccinations, product shortages, and updates about the COVID-19 virus. Do not click links on any unsolicited emails or other electronic communications related to this topic. According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), there are currently no approved products available that can treat the virus.
  • If you are contacted and asked for online banking credentials, credit card numbers, or other Personal Identification Information (PII), be vigilant.
  • Be suspicious about any offer via email or telephone that appears too good to be true. Never provide PII on an unsolicited phone call or click any links on an unsolicited email. Always determine if the person or business you are interacting with is legitimate. If in doubt, go directly to the company's website or call a reputable number to verify any information.
  • Be careful about offers for work from home schemes, job opportunities, or any emails or texts that are about checks from the government. Government agencies do not communicate through social media outlets and will never ask you to pay a fee for a government grant.
    • Beware Stimulus Check Scams: Some scammers may start using official-looking fake checks to steal money and confuse people into turning over personal information.
    • Checks from the Government: The FTC predicts that the scammers are gearing up to take advantage of the upcoming government checks.
    • Coronavirus Scams: What the FTC is Doing: The FTC has compiled some useful tips for keeping scammers at bay.
